On the most basic level, you can use the Peloton App to view classes as you would in other streaming and on-demand platforms.

For instance, if you want to learn about stretching, you might watch an instructor go through stretches on the screen you can follow.

You don’t have to connect your non-Peloton bike in a direct way if you want to use it quickly for straightforward class viewing.

Compared to the standard Peloton membership, you will need to use more manual methods for overall workout monitoring and tracking, but you can have a real-time workout experience with classes if you have the right equipment.

Though I haven’t done this myself, you can probably use a regular bike with the Peloton App if you can establish and maintain a good Bluetooth connection between the app and your cadence sensor.

You might also be able to rig a regular street bike to be used as a stationary bike with the Peloton App.

For safety and more optimized use with the Peloton App, I’d recommend using an actual stationary bike that has modern features that are similar to a Peloton bike.

Having the option to attach toe clips can allow you to use more of your body and get a workout that is more in line with what a Peloton bike user is experiencing.

You might also benefit from getting cycling shoes you can wear with your non-Peloton bike.

Peloton bike users are often outfitted with all the bells and whistles available for Peloton bike workouts, so you can join classes in your Peloton App in a similar fashion by having similar accessories.

To monitor your pedaling cadence (or rotation rate) with the Peloton App and a non-Peloton bike, you will need to buy an acceptable cadence sensor.

Cadence sensors are usually easy to find and can be quickly connected to your Peloton App with a wireless connection.

You can also attach a gauge to your non-Peloton bike to measure your bike’s pedaling resistance.

Peloton classes will often go through stretches where they will have various levels of resistance to simulate climbs, coasts, and downhill bike rides.

Though using a resistance tool with your non-Peloton bike can help to immerse you in your Peloton workout, it isn’t necessary to participate in a class.

I like to have equal or similar resistance to other people in the class, but it can also be more relaxing to not have to worry about that during the workout.

I can usually still get a quality workout on my non-Peloton bike and the Peloton App without any additional devices.

Even though I do have devices that can assist with tracking metrics, I’m not always in the mood to use them.
