A lot of shoppers find themselves on the fence between choosing either the NordicTrack S22i or the Peloton bike, but what are their differences?
If you want to get a solid workout without ever having to leave your house, there is no better way to do it than with a home exercise bike like the NordicTrack S22i or the Peloton Bike. These home workout bikes have become increasingly popular in recent years and they are both high-quality products, but you need to understand their differences so that you can choose the right one for your home.
The differences between the NordicTrack S22i and the Peloton are that the Peloton Bike is cheaper, smaller, offers advanced studio classes, and has better resistance settings. Whereas the NordicTrack S22i has flexible subscription plans, a larger variety of classes, and a bigger display.
Incorporating an exercise bike into your home can be a total game-changer for your fitness routine. The days of staring at your bedroom wall while you pedal your way towards your mileage goals are long gone. Exercise bikes like the NordicTrack S22i and the Peloton Bike have enabled people to shift gears on their daily workouts by offering intuitive, comfortable, and advanced fitness programs which are all available in a large-sized display located on the front of the machine. You can take classes, burn calories, and enjoy a new-age approach to working out that encourages you to strive toward your exercise goals. With that said, although the NordicTrack S22i and the Peloton Bike do have a lot of similarities, they also have their fair share of differences. Understanding these is going to be crucial for figuring out which exercise bike is right for you. To help you pick the right product for your home, we are going to break down the differences between the NordicTrack S22i and the Peloton Bike in more detail.
After extensively researching the NordicTrack S22i and the Peloton Bike, I have been able to gather enough information to determine the differences between these two exercise bikes. My research has indicated that you should consider your budget, as well as the specs and capabilities that you want your exercise bike to have when choosing between these two products.
One of the biggest selling points of the Peloton Bike is that it is cheaper than the NordicTrack S22i. As home workout bikes continue to become more advanced and equipped with high-tech features, the price of these products has shot up quite a bit.
- Peloton - $1,495
- NordicTrack S22i - $1,899
Both the Peloton Bike and the NordicTrack S22i had very similar price tags in previous years. However, Peloton ended up dropping the price of their exercise bike recently which has been swaying a lot of shoppers towards their product.
With that said, Peloton offers two different bikes, their standard model and the Peloton+. While the standard option is roughly $400 cheaper than the NordicTrack S22i, the Peloton+ is actually a lot more expensive and is currently available for $2,495.
Finding the right place in your home for your exercise bike is going to be essential. This is particularly the case if you live in a small apartment and are trying to keep your living space efficient and organized, which is why a lot of shoppers are carefully evaluating the size of both the Peloton Bike and the NordicTrack S22i.
The Peloton Bike is smaller than the NordicTrack S22i. Although it is only by a few inches, this can make all of the difference in whether or not the bike is right for you and your home.
- Peloton - 59 × 23 × 53 inches
- NordicTrack S22i - 63 × 22 × 60 inches
The last thing you want is an exercise bike awkwardly taking up space inside of your living space, which is why you should always take measurements of your home so that you can determine which size bike will realistically fit. If you are considering the Pelaton+, the size is identical to the standard model.
A lot of people are often surprised to find that the money you spend on buying either the NordicTrack S22i or the Peloton Bike is just the initial cost of what you will ultimately pay. One of the best things about owning one of these exercise bikes is that you get to take advantage of all of the in-app features that make these products so appealing, such as classes and boot camps.
If you want access to these features, you need to subscribe to either NordicTrack’s iFit App or the Peloton App.
- Peloton App - $44 per month
- iFit (NordicTrack S22i) - $39.99 per month
Peloton increased the price of its app just this year from $39.99 to $44 per month. While this may not seem like such a drastic change, an extra $60 per year does add up when you look at it long-term. This ultimately, makes the iFit app with NordicTrack S22i a more affordable subscription plan.
In addition, the iFit subscription also comes in several different packages. You can choose to buy your iFit subscription for one year, which only costs $180 for 12 months - making it the best deal for long-term customers. You can also opt for a yearly family plan which costs $396.
App Features & Services
What tends to be the biggest deal breaker for a lot of shoppers deciding between the NordicTrack S22i and Peloton Bike are the in-app features and services.
Both of these home exercise bikes come equipped with advanced and intuitive workouts and features, but depending on what you are looking for in your fitness routine, you may find that one suits your needs better than the other.
What has truly been a game-changer for modern home exercise bikes are the built-in classes. If you have paid for a subscription to either of these apps, the number of classes that you can take with both Peloton and iFit is unlimited.
You can work out as much or as little as you want with both of these apps and you can even join live classes. With that said, the number of classes and workouts that are available with these apps is different.
- Peloton - 10,000 classes
- iFit - 16,000 classes
You get quite a bit more out of an iFit subscription as far as the number of classes that are available to you. However, a lot of people that have tried both of these services have found that Peloton’s studio classes are more enjoyable and advanced compared to iFit’s.
Ultimately, each person has different workout goals to achieve. While Peloton is currently praised for having more intuitive and advanced studio classes available, that is by no means implied that iFit is not capable of delivering quality, high-intensity workouts.
It can be extremely frustrating to buy a product from a specific brand or manufacturer only to find that it is not compatible with any other device or service.
With that said, one of the biggest downsides to buying a Peloton Bike is that it is only compatible with the Peloton App. This means that you can only use the Peloton App on the Peloton Bike and you will not be able to use iFit or any other app.
The NordicTrack S22i is compatible with a variety of different fitness apps - including the Peloton App. If you do not want to exercise with iFit on your NordicTrack S22i, feel free to cycle with your preferred application.
While both the iFit app and the Peloton App will work with other exercise bikes, I have found that the iFit app is only compatible with products that share similar software. In most cases, you should be able to use the iFit app with bikes other than your NordicTrack S22i, but you should always confirm this before buying a product.
The Peloton App was designed to be used with virtually any exercise bike. Although there are some requirements for the app to be compatible with certain bikes, the majority of exercise bikes sold today can be used with the Peloton app.
Most people who sit down to work out on their home exercise bikes want to get in motion without any hassles. Given that these bikes are all connected to applications, having a user-friendly interface that is easy to navigate is crucial for many shoppers- especially those who are not tech-savvy.
Overall, I’ve found the Peloton app to be easier to navigate. The interface of the app is clean and the options that you have to choose from are straightforward to use so that you can get your workout going without wasting time.
The iFit app connected to the NordicTrack S22i is not challenging to use, but it does come with additional features and options. If you are focused solely on your standard workout routine and specific classes, you do not need to have all of these features available.
A lot of us decide to bring an exercise bike into our lives because we are trying to lose a few pounds, which is why you should take a close look at the weight capacity of both of these home exercise bikes.
- Peloton - 297lbs
- NordicTrack S22i - 350lbs
Overall, if you are a heavyset rider, the NordicTrack S22i is going to be a more reliable bike. This home exercise bike is a little bigger and also a bit sturdier than the Peloton, which is why it has a higher weight capacity.
A key feature that comes with just about every exercise bike these days is a display. Both the
Peloton Bike and the NordicTrack S22i have very good quality displays that are easy to use and navigate.
The size of the displays of these products is very similar, but the NordicTrack S22i is slightly bigger.
- Peloton - 21.5 inches
- NordicTrack S22i - 22 inches
With that said, if you want a bigger and better display on your exercise bike, you are going to be better off going for the Peloton+, as this bike has a massive 23.8-inch display. The good news is that you can always upgrade your display later on as new products become available.
If you are a fitness junkie and want to have an optimal workout every time that you hop on your exercise bike, having quality pedals is going to be a must. Although you should always have good pedals installed when fitness riding, the type of pedals that you prefer to cycle with is really up to you.
- Peloton - Delta-compatible aluminum pedals
- NordicTrack S22i - Standard road bike pedals
People who are used to road cycling may find that the NordicTrack S22i pedals feel familiar with physical riding, which can be a plus for certain buyers. However, most indoor cyclists find that Peloton’s delta-compatible aluminum pedals are more versatile.
The resistance settings that you get with the NordicTrack S22i compared to the Peloton Bike are quite different - in both the amount and type of resistance that the bikes offer. Peloton ultimately wins the race in giving their customers considerably more resistance settings.
- Peloton - 100 levels of magnetic resistance
- NordicTrack S22i - 24 levels of digital resistance
Although Peloton offers more variety for resistance levels, some riders prefer to have digital resistance. At the end of the day, the type of resistance that you prefer to have with your fitness bike is really up to you.
